Germania Park is proud to be home to Schlaraffia, an international German-speaking fraternal organization dedicated to the appreciation of friendship, art, humor, and culture.
Founded in Prague in 1859, Schlaraffia brings together individuals who share an interest in literature, music, theater, and the visual arts. Members gather in a spirit of camaraderie and lighthearted fellowship, using medieval-inspired traditions, symbolism, and ceremonies to celebrate creativity and intellectual exchange. Meetings, known as Sippungen, combine wit, music, storytelling, and artistic presentations in a unique and enjoyable atmosphere.
The Schlaraffian motto, “In Arte Voluptas” (“In Art, There Is Joy”), reflects the organization’s commitment to fostering friendship through the arts while setting aside politics, religion, and business during its gatherings.
At Germania Park, Schlaraffia continues this rich tradition by providing members with opportunities to share their talents, celebrate German cultural heritage, and enjoy the fellowship that has united Schlaraffians around the world for more than 165 years. Visitors interested in learning more about Schlaraffia are encouraged to contact Germania Park for information about meetings and membership opportunities.
